Wow, 2014 is almost in the books…but before that happens I would like to THANK each of you for the part you have played in mak-ing this year another successful one for B&G Foods. Without your efforts we cannot serve our customers in the way they expect to be served and that makes each member of our team important. As we enter the Christmas season, I would like to invite each of you to remember the REASON FOR THE SEASON. In the United States, Christmas was not a day invented by the government in an effort to be “poli4cally correct”. It did not start off being a day the Federal Government made into a holiday by giving all their employees off. Christmas was and is a Religious Holi-day. Chris4an faiths celebrated it to recognize the birth of Jesus Christ. The United States was founded on religious freedoms--- which means you can celebrate and prac4ce any religion you choose, or none if you so desire; and since most of the first immi-grants coming to America were prac4cing Chris4ans, they celebrated the birth of Christ. In 4me as our country grew and our gov-ernment grew, it came to realize that the people through their prac4ces had made it a holiday. December 25th evolved to be recognized as the birth date of Christ some4me in the 2nd century. The United States of America did not declare Christmas a Na4onal Holiday un4l the year 1870. In the last 50-75 years it has become the busiest shopping 4me of the year, and retailers and their marke4ng are trying to be so “poli4cally correct” that many have taken Christ out of Christmas, and now it is the “Holiday Season”, or “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”, for fear of losing the business of those with other beliefs. In a way, when you think about it, that is disrespec?ul to Chris4ans. Just as I would not disrespect the believer in Buddhism, Hindu-ism, Islam ,the Jewish faith, or any other religion; I cannot understand why anyone would be upset with my belief in Christ. I think all organized religions believe in a higher power. I would hope in this holiest 4me of the year for Chris4ans that all faiths could join together and pray that each could respect the others, and truly bring PEACE ON EARTH. My wish to all--------- Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year…. Gregory Hamer, Sr.
